A five-minute walk from the Hotel Albe Bastille, in the heart of the lively 12th arrondissement, hides a little-known belt of urban greenery: the Coulée Verte. For a long and unusual walk, head for this linear park where nature has regained a foothold in the capital. It reveals another side of Paris.
The charming story of the Coulée Verte
Running for over 4.7 km, the Coulée Verte connects the Opéra Bastille and the Place de la Bastille to the Boulevard Périphérique and the Parc de Vincennes. This long bucolic promenade crosses one of the most densely urbanised districts of Paris, following the route of the old Vincennes railway line, abandoned in 1969. It was recently rehabilitated to create an unusual green space, much of which is carried on a viaduct above the city’s streets. During its restoration, it was decided to preserve the vestiges of its history. Thus, the route takes you over the viaduct’s repurposed arches, through tunnels and under footbridges, allowing a vivid glimpse into the past...
The many facets of the Coulée Verte
Throughout the 4.7 km trail, the ambiance of the Coulée Verte changes numerous times. Following its verdant route, you will cross parks and gardens, pass under magnolias and bamboos, visit the shops and artisan studios of the Viaduc des Arts, and admire street art frescoes. Fountains, rosebushes, lawns and charming arbors add to the picturesque tranquillity. So, for a morning jog, a romantic stroll at any time or just for a stroll amidst the beauties of nature with your family, the Coulée Verte is a must!
The Hotel Albe Bastille is located in a district renowned for its entertainment, with its bars and restaurants, theatres and shops... It also boasts a marvel of nature and heritage: the Coulée Verte. Ideal for a quiet stroll or a complete crossing of the 12th arrondissement!
